Dancing into Abstraction To view additional images, click on Play or Arrows at top of image
I love watching dance, the way dancers' bodies move, the shapes they make, their fluid nature. The combination of a figure drawing course I recently took at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and seeing the ballet, Rodin/Claudel, choreographed by Peter Quantz, spurred me to start a series of paintings of dancers. In this body of work, I want to capture the movement of the dancers but in an abstract way. In some of the paintings I am also exploring earlier art styles - the dark paintings of the Renaissance, the pastel colours of the Impressionists, the bold style of the German Expressionists. I hope these paintings touch your soul in a way that dancers touch mine.
